About the Diamond Lizardfish
What It Looks Like
The diamond lizardfish can grow up to about 33 centimeters (1.1 feet) long. However, most of them are usually around 20 centimeters (8 inches) long. You can often spot this fish by the dark red stripes on its back.
Where It Lives
This fish likes to live in marine environments, especially near coral reefs. It usually stays in waters that are 2 to 35 meters deep. You can find it in shallow areas close to shore. It prefers to hang out on hard surfaces, like rocks, instead of sandy bottoms. Sometimes, it can also be found in deeper open waters, up to 90 meters deep.
Is It Eaten?
Some people say the diamond lizardfish tastes good. However, it is not a common fish that people eat often. Sometimes, local fishers might catch it. This fish is not considered dangerous to humans.
Where in the World It Lives
The diamond lizardfish lives across a wide area of the Atlantic Ocean.
- In the Americas: You can find it from North Carolina in the United States all the way down to Uruguay.
- Atlantic Islands: It also lives around many islands in the Atlantic. This includes islands in the Caribbean, Bermuda, Saint Helena and Ascension Island, São Tomé, and Macaronesia.
- African Coast: It is also found near Senegal in Africa.
