Diego Dublé Almeyda (born in 1841, died in 1922) was an important officer in the Chilean Army. He was known for his military service and for helping to start a big sheep farming business in Patagonia. He also served as a governor in a faraway part of Chile.

Early Life and Military Start

Diego Dublé Almeyda was born in Valparaíso, Chile, in 1841. From a young age, he chose a career in the military. He joined the Chilean Army in 1857. This was the start of a long and important career. He served his country for many years.

Governor of Punta Arenas

From 1874 to 1878, Diego Dublé Almeyda had a special job. He was the governor of Punta Arenas. This city is located in the Straits of Magellan. It's a very southern part of Chile. Being governor meant he was in charge of the area. He helped manage the region.

Starting the Sheep Business

While he was governor, Diego Dublé Almeyda did something very interesting. In 1876, he sailed on a ship called the Chacabuco. He traveled to Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. There, he bought 300 sheep.

He brought these sheep back to Patagonia. He then sold them to a person named Henry Reynard. This action was a big step. It helped start the Patagonian sheep farming boom. This boom made sheep farming a huge business in the region.
