Disabled skiing at the 1984 Winter Olympics facts for kids
Disabled skiing was shown for the first time at the 1984 Winter Olympics. It was a "demonstration sport." This means it was included to show people what it was like, but the medals won did not count towards the official country totals.
The event was a giant slalom race for men. Skiers competed in four different groups based on their disability. These races happened in addition to the alpine and cross-country events at the 1984 Winter Paralympics in Innsbruck. Disabled skiing was also a demonstration sport at the 1988 Winter Olympics. In 1984, 29 disabled skiers from 11 countries took part.
