1906 Intercalated Games |
Sweden first joined the Olympic Games at the very first Games in 1896. Since then, Swedish athletes have competed in almost every Olympic Games. The only time they missed was the 1904 Summer Olympics. Sweden has won medals at all Olympic Games since 1908. This is the longest medal-winning streak in Olympic history!
Sweden has hosted the Olympic Games once. This was the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. Also, the horse riding events for the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne were held in Stockholm. This happened because of special rules about animal travel.
Swedish athletes have won a total of 514 medals at the Summer Olympic Games. They have also won 176 medals at the Winter Olympic Games.
Viktor Balck, a Swedish officer and sports teacher, was one of the first members of the International Olympic Committee. The Swedish Olympic Committee was officially started in 1913.
