Diving was one of the exciting water sports at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. These competitions happened from July 29 to August 11 at the Aquatics Centre. This venue was part of the big Olympic Park. Diving was one of four water sports, along with swimming, water polo, and synchronized swimming.

There were eight different diving events at the 2012 Games. Both men and women competed in four types of dives:

  • 3-meter springboard
  • Synchronized 3-meter springboard (two divers doing the same dive at the same time)
  • 10-meter platform
  • Synchronized 10-meter platform

A total of 136 divers from 25 countries took part. To compete, all divers had to be at least 14 years old by the end of 2012. China was the most successful country in diving. They won six gold medals and ten medals in total!

How Divers Qualified for the Olympics

To join the Olympic diving events, countries had to qualify. Each country could send a maximum of 16 divers. This meant up to eight male and eight female divers. For each individual event, a country could have two divers. For synchronized events, they could have one pair.

Qualifying for Individual Events

Divers could qualify for individual events in a few ways:

  • The top 12 divers from the 2011 World Championships in each event.
  • The five champions from each continent in their events.
  • Up to 18 divers who reached the semi-finals at the 2012 Diving World Cup.

Qualifying for Synchronized Events

For synchronized diving, pairs qualified like this:

  • The top three pairs from the 2011 World Championships.
  • The top four pairs from the 2012 World Cup.
  • The host country, Great Britain, automatically got a spot.

It's important to know that these spots went to the country, not to a specific diver. However, one diver could only earn one spot for their country.

Countries That Competed

Twenty-five countries sent divers to the 2012 Olympics. Here are the nations that participated:
