Pandelela Rinong anak Pamg (born March 2, 1993) is a famous Malaysian diver. She has achieved amazing success in her sport. Pandelela has won two medals at the Olympic Games and seven medals at the World Aquatics Championships. She is known for her powerful dives from the 10-meter platform.
Pandelela first represented Malaysia at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She later won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She was also chosen to carry Malaysia's flag at the 2012 Summer Olympics. At those Games, she won a bronze medal in the 10-meter platform event. This made her the first Malaysian female athlete to win an Olympic medal. She was also the first Malaysian to win an Olympic medal in any sport other than badminton. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won a silver medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform event with her partner, Cheong Jun Hoong.

About Pandelela's Life
Pandelela was born in a village called Kupuo Jugan in Bau, Sarawak, Malaysia. Her parents are Hartini Lamim and Pamg Joheng. She is from the Bidayuh ethnic group, which is a native community in Sarawak. She is the second of four children in her family.
When she was just seven years old, Pandelela was chosen to be a state diver. She then trained at the Bukit Jalil Sports School. Later, in 2018, she graduated from the University of Malaya. She studied Sports Management Science there. Pandelela can speak several languages, including Mandarin, Bidayuh, Malay, and English.
Pandelela's Diving Journey
Pandelela started her international diving career in 2007. At the Asian Junior Aquatics Championships, she won four gold medals! Later that year, she won a gold medal at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. She won this in the 10-meter synchronized platform event with Cheong Jun Hoong.
Olympic and World Championships Debut
Pandelela made her first Olympic appearance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics when she was only 15. She finished 27th in the 10-meter platform event. In 2009, at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships, she placed fifth in the 10-meter platform. She also won a bronze medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform with Leong Mun Yee. This was Malaysia's first-ever diving medal at the World Championships.
Youth Olympics and Commonwealth Games Success
Pandelela won two gold medals at the 2009 Southeast Asian Games. She was also the flag bearer for Malaysia at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. There, she won silver medals in both the 10-meter platform and 3-meter springboard events.
At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, Pandelela made history. She won Malaysia's first gold medal in an aquatic sport by winning the 10-meter platform event. She also won a bronze medal in the 10-meter platform and a silver medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform with Leong Mun Yee at the 2010 Asian Games.
Making History at the Olympics
Pandelela was chosen to be the flag bearer for Team Malaysia at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony. She was the first Malaysian female athlete to have this honor. She competed in several events, including the individual 10-meter platform.
At the 2012 London Olympics, she won a bronze medal in the 10-meter platform. This made her the first Malaysian female athlete to win an Olympic medal. It was also the first Olympic medal for Malaysia in any sport other than badminton. To celebrate her success, the Sarawak State Government gave her the Johan Bintang Kenyalang award. She was the first athlete from Sarawak to receive this special award.
Continuing Success
At the 2013 World Aquatics Championships, Pandelela and Mun Yee won a bronze medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform. She also kept her gold medal in the 10-meter platform event at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games.
In 2014, Pandelela competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Even with a knee injury, she won a bronze medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform with Nur Dhabitah Sabri. She also won a silver medal in the 10-meter platform. At the 2014 Asian Games, she won a bronze medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform with Leong Mun Yee.
In July 2015, Pandelela made history again. She became the first Malaysian to win an individual medal at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships. She won a bronze medal in the 10-meter platform in Kazan. This also helped her qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
Olympic Silver and Beyond
At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Pandelela won a silver medal. She achieved this in the 10-meter synchronized platform with Cheong Jun Hoong. This was the first time a Malaysian women's team won a silver medal at the Olympics. After her success, the Sarawak Aquatic Centre was renamed the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in her honor. After the 2016 Olympics, Pandelela took a break to recover from injuries.
In 2017, at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, she won a bronze medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform with Cheong Jun Hoong. She also won gold medals at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.
In 2021, at the 2021 FINA Diving World Cup in Tokyo, Japan, Pandelela won a gold medal in the individual 10-meter platform. This was another big achievement for her. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Pandelela and Leong Mun Yee finished eighth in the women's 10-meter synchronized platform.
