Wu Minxia (Chinese: 吴敏霞; pinyin: Wú Mǐnxiá; born on November 10, 1985) is a retired Chinese diver. She was amazing at diving from the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards. She also excelled in synchronized 3-meter springboard events.

Wu Minxia started competing in big championships in 2001. She represented China in every Asian Games, Olympic Games, and FINA World Aquatics Championships until 2016. She won eight world championships and five Olympic gold medals. She also won five Asian Games gold medals. This makes her one of the most successful divers ever!

Wu Minxia's Diving Journey

Wu Minxia began her amazing diving career at the 2001 World Aquatics Championships. She teamed up with Guo Jingjing to win the gold medal in the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard. They were a fantastic team!

Winning with Guo Jingjing

Wu and Guo continued to win the synchronized 3-meter springboard title three more times. They were almost unbeatable! In 2005, Guo partnered with another diver, Li Ting, and won. Wu also won the same event with Guo at the 2002 Asian Games.

Olympic Successes

Wu Minxia competed for China at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She won a gold medal in the synchronized 3-meter springboard with Guo Jingjing. She also earned a silver medal in the individual 3-meter springboard. Guo Jingjing took the gold in that event.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Wu won another gold medal with Guo in the synchronized 3-meter springboard. She then won a bronze medal in the individual 3-meter springboard. Guo Jingjing and Julia Pakhalina from Russia finished ahead of her.

New Partners, More Wins

After Guo Jingjing retired, Wu Minxia started diving with He Zi. This new partnership was also very successful! They won the 3-meter synchronized title at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships. At the same championships in her hometown, Shanghai, Wu also won her only individual world championship title in the 3-meter springboard.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Wu and He Zi won a gold medal in the synchronized 3-meter springboard. This made Wu the first woman to win a diving gold medal in three Olympics in a row! She also won a gold medal in the individual 3-meter springboard event.

During the 2012 Olympics, her parents had kept some personal news from her. They wanted her to stay completely focused on her training and competition. This showed how dedicated she was to her sport.

Making History in Diving

Wu Minxia continued to make history. She won the 3-meter synchronized springboard event at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships. She had a new partner, Shi Tingmao. With these wins, Wu became the first diver to win seven gold medals in this event!

At the 2014 Asian Games and the 2016 Summer Olympics, Wu earned another gold medal. She won the 3-meter women's synchronized springboard with Shi Tingmao.

Wu Minxia's Family Life

On May 12, 2017, Wu Minxia accepted a marriage proposal from Zhang Xiaocheng. They got married just five days later, on May 17. Their wedding ceremony was held in Fuping, Shaanxi. They welcomed their daughter on December 19, 2018. Their son was born on February 7, 2022.
