History of Dixie
Dixie began in 1861. This was when a railroad line was built through the area. The community got its name from "Dixie." This is a popular nickname for the southeastern United States.
A post office opened in Dixie in 1879. For a time, Dixie was an official town. The Georgia General Assembly made it an incorporated town in 1908. This gave it its own local government. However, the town's official status ended in 1995. Its town charter was removed. Since then, it has been an unincorporated community.
