Dobrinka Tabakova (Bulgarian: Добринка Табакова) is a talented composer. She was born in 1980 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. She is known for her beautiful classical music. Dobrinka is both Bulgarian and British.

Becoming a Composer
Dobrinka Tabakova was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Her parents, Vassilka and Slavik Tabakov, were both medical physicists. When she was just 14 years old, Dobrinka won a big award. It was the Jean-Frederic Perrenoud Prize in Vienna. This showed her amazing musical talent early on.
She moved to London to study music. She attended Alleyn's School and the Royal Academy of Music. Later, she graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD). She then earned a special degree called a Ph.D. in composition. This degree was from King's College. She learned from many great music teachers.
Her Music Career
Dobrinka Tabakova has written many important pieces of music. One of her songs, "Praise," was sung at St. Paul's Cathedral. This was part of the celebration for Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee. That's a huge honor!
She has won several awards for her compositions. In 1999, she won the GSMD Lutosławski Composition Prize. She also won the Adam Prize from King's College London in 2007. This was for her song cycle called Sonnets to Sundry Notes in Music. In 2011, she won first prize in a choral competition in New York.
Many important groups have asked Dobrinka to write music for them. These include the Royal Philharmonic Society and BBC Radio 3. Her music has been played at big music events. These events are held across Britain, Europe, and even in the United States.
Dobrinka has worked with famous orchestras. Some of these are the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Her music is often performed by talented musicians. These include the violist Maxim Rysanov and violinists Gidon Kremer and Janine Jansen.
In 2013, a special album of her music was released. It was called String Paths. This album became very popular. It reached No.2 on the UK classical music charts. It also received many good reviews. String Paths was even nominated for a Grammy Award! It was in the "Best Classical Compendium" category.
In 2023, Dobrinka won an Ivor Novello Award. This award was for her piece called "Swarm Fanfares." She wrote this music for a youth orchestra. It won the award for Best Community and Participation Composition. This shows her dedication to young musicians.
