About Dog Lake

History and Name
Long ago, Dog Lake was part of a major travel route. This route was used by voyageurs, who were early travelers and traders in Canada. They used canoes to move goods across the country.
The lake gets its name from a special reason. There is a large, ancient carving of a dog on a nearby hill. This carving was made by Indigenous peoples. It is known as an "effigy."
