Dollar Bay is located in the northern part of Michigan. It sits in the southwest corner of Osceola Township. The community also stretches into Franklin Township and Torch Lake Township.
The name "Dollar Bay" comes from a small bay. This bay is part of Portage Lake. Portage Lake is a body of water that separates the Keweenaw Peninsula from the rest of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The main road through Dollar Bay is M-26. This highway goes west about 3 miles (5 km) to Hancock. It also goes northeast about 5 miles (8 km) to Hubbell.
