Domingo Ortiz de Rosas y García de Villasuso, 1st Marquis of Poblaciones (Spanish: Domingo Ortiz de Rosas y García de Villasuso, primer Marqués de Poblaciones) (1683–1756) was an important Spanish soldier. He also served as a governor in the Spanish colonies.

A Leader in Colonial Chile
Domingo Ortiz de Rosas was a key figure in the Spanish Empire. He was a general in the Spanish Army. He also held important political roles. He served as the Governor of Buenos Aires from 1741 to 1742. Later, he became the Governor of Chile.
His Time as Governor of Chile
Ortiz de Rosas was the Governor of Chile from 1746 to 1755. During his time, he made many big changes. One major project was moving the city of Concepción. It moved from its old spot (now called Penco) to where it is today.
Founding New Cities
Governor Ortiz de Rosas also helped create several new cities. These new towns helped to expand the Spanish territory. They also made it easier for people to live and trade. The cities he founded include:
- Casablanca (originally named Santa Bárbara de Casablanca)
- Coelemu (originally named Villa Jesús de Coelemu)
- La Ligua (originally named Santo Domingo de Rosas de la Ligua)
- Petorca (originally named Santa Ana de Briviescas)
- Quirihue (originally named San Antonio Abad de Quirihue)
Education and Progress
Ortiz de Rosas also focused on education and law. On March 11, 1747, he helped create the first university in colonial Chile. This was the Royal University of San Felipe (Real Universidad de San Felipe). The first leader of this university was Tomás de Azúa e Iturgoyen. This university later became the famous Universidad de Chile. He also set up a special colony for prisoners. This colony was on the Juan Fernández Islands.
His Final Journey
Domingo Ortiz de Rosas died on June 29, 1756. He was on a Spanish ship called the Leon. The ship was sailing to Europe with his family. Records show he was 80 years old when he passed away. He was buried at sea the next morning.
