Christopher Wallace (born August 20, 1985), known as Don Trip, is an American rapper. He started making music in 2007. Don Trip is known for helping create the unique Memphis sound.
He is famous for his 2011 song, "Letter to my Son." This song featured the artist Cee Lo Green. A video of him recording the song became very popular online. Because of this, he signed with Epidemic Records in 2011. This label was part of Interscope Records. "Letter to my Son" was then released as his first major song. The next year, he was named an XXL Freshman. This is a special honor for new rappers. After leaving the label, he continued to make music on his own. His 2015 album, Godspeed, even made it onto the Billboard 200 music chart. He also created a series of mixtapes called Step Brothers with rapper Starlito.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Don Trip grew up in East Memphis. His family did not have a lot of money. His mother worked three jobs to support him, his brother, and his sister. Even with all her hard work, it was still tough.
When he was 12, Don Trip started working to help his family. He once said, "all we ever had was us." Early on, he looked up to rappers like Jay-Z, Tupac, and Jadakiss. At 15, he felt his family needed more help. He was inspired by the young rap group Kriss Kross. That's when he started rapping and making his own music.
Don Trip's Music Career
Early Career Highlights
Don Trip began rapping at age 15. He spent years improving his skills. In the late 2000s, he started releasing mixtapes and songs. Between October 2010 and February 2012, he released nine projects. These included Crossface Crippler and Guerilla. He shared his mixtapes on websites like Datpiff. This helped him gain many fans as a street rapper.
His song "Letter to My Son" was first released in 2009. It became very popular on YouTube. This helped him move into mainstream hip-hop. The song talked about his struggles. He couldn't see his son because of a court decision. People praised the song for showing a real-life challenge. This kind of struggle was not often heard in rap music.
In 2012, after "Letter to My Son" became a hit, Don Trip was chosen as one of XXL's 2012 freshmen. Other artists chosen that year included Future and Danny Brown. Soon after, he signed with Epidemic Records. This was a company started by the production team Cool & Dre and Interscope Records.
The Step Brothers Series

Before signing with Interscope, Don Trip had a big success. He made a mixtape called Step Brothers with Starlito. This was a team-up project. It came out in 2011. The mixtape had many jokes and references to the movie Step Brothers. It became very popular among rap fans.
A few months before the mixtape came out, Yo Gotti introduced Starlito and Don Trip. Don Trip was touring with Yo Gotti at the time. Both rappers already knew each other's music. They found that their music styles worked well together. So, they decided to create a project together. After just three studio sessions, Step Brothers was finished.
Because the mixtape was so successful, Starlito and Trip kept working together. They released Step Brothers 2 in 2013. Don Trip lived in Memphis, and Starlito lived in Nashville. But they always met in person to record their songs. They never just emailed songs back and forth. In 2017, they teamed up again for Step Brothers 3. Before that, they released another mixtape called Karate in the Garage. Step Brothers 3 was released on their own. It received great reviews from magazines like Pitchfork and XXL.
