Dorothy is a small community known as a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located within Special Area No. 2, a special type of rural area in Alberta. You can find Dorothy about 21 kilometres (13 mi) (13 miles) east of Highway 56. It is also about 85 kilometres (53 mi) (53 miles) northwest of the town of Brooks.
How Dorothy Got Its Name
The community of Dorothy was named after a young girl. Her name was Dorothy Wilson. She lived in the area when the local post office first opened.
History of Churches
Dorothy is home to two old churches that are no longer used for services. One is a United Church, which was active from 1932 to 1961. The other is Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, which was used from 1944 to 1967. These churches were important places for the community. They hosted many social events for the people living in the area.
Population of Dorothy
In 1991, Statistics Canada counted the number of people living in Dorothy. The official count from the 1991 Census of Population showed that 14 people lived in Dorothy at that time.
