Dorsey, Maryland, is a small area in Maryland, United States. It's not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it's called an unincorporated community. This means it's part of a larger county.

Dorsey is located right on the edge of two counties: Howard County and Anne Arundel County. You can find it south of Elkridge and north of Savage. It's also very close to the Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). This area is part of the larger Baltimore metropolitan area.

Getting Around Dorsey

Dorsey is a convenient place for travel. It has a train station that helps people get to work or school.

The MARC Train Station

Dorsey is a stop on the MARC Camden Line. This train system helps people travel between Baltimore and Washington, D.C.. Many people who live in nearby places like Elkridge, Ellicott City, and northern Columbia use this station. There's a big parking lot right off Maryland State Highway 100 for commuters.

Bus Connections

You can also catch Howard Transit buses from Dorsey station. These buses connect to many different spots in Howard County. They can even take you to the nearby Arundel Mills mall, which is a popular shopping and entertainment center.

What's in Dorsey?

Dorsey is home to several businesses and educational centers. It's a place where people work and learn.

Local Businesses

The area has many different types of businesses. You can find hotels, which are great for travelers coming from BWI. There are also large warehouses, which store goods before they are shipped out.

University Campuses

Dorsey also hosts parts of two well-known universities. Both Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland University College have satellite campuses here. These campuses are located within a large area called the Dorsey Business Center.

History of Dorsey's Business Hub

The Dorsey Business Center is a major part of the community today. But it wasn't always a business park.

From Speedway to Business Park

The Dorsey Business Center is a huge area, about 50-acre (200,000 m2) (that's about 200,000 square meters!). It was built between 1984 and 1989. This was one of the first big development projects in this part of the Baltimore region.

Before it became a business park, this land had a different purpose. It was once the site of the Dorsey Speedway. This was a track where stock car races took place. Now, instead of race cars, the area has over two million square feet of offices and stores. Just like the train station, Howard Transit buses connect the business park to the Dorsey MARC station.
