A Look at Doubleview's History
The land where Doubleview now stands was first used by a dairy farmer named John Daniel Manning in 1895. He was from England.
Later, in 1910, a real estate investor named Charles Edgar Stoneman bought the land. He started selling it off in smaller pieces, called subdivisions. He even used street names from the center of Perth. This made people think they were buying land closer to the city!
In 1916, another real estate developer, M. L. Connor, bought the southern part of Doubleview. He also tried to sell the land in subdivisions, but not many people bought them. So, in 1926, a team of developers named Dudley and Dwyer bought the land. They were the ones who came up with the name 'Doubleview'. Even with the new name, the land was still hard to sell.
After the Second World War, the government of Western Australia built houses in the northern part of Doubleview. These homes were for soldiers returning from the war. The first houses were made with timber frames. More recently, houses have been built using brick and tile. Doubleview has mostly remained a place where people live.
