Douglas Smith (born September 17, 1969) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks as the sixth player picked in the 1991 NBA draft.

Doug Smith's College Basketball Journey

Doug Smith graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit in 1987. After high school, he played college basketball for the University of Missouri. His jersey number, 34, was retired by the university to honor his achievements. This means no other player at Missouri will wear that number.

Doug Smith's Professional Basketball Career

Doug Smith played in the NBA for five seasons. He played for the Dallas Mavericks from 1991 to 1995. He then joined the Boston Celtics for the 1995-1996 season. During his NBA career, he scored an average of 8.0 points per game.

Playing for the Celtics

In 1995, the Toronto Raptors picked Doug Smith in an expansion draft. However, he was released before he played any games for them. On October 4, 1995, he signed with the Boston Celtics. He stayed with the Celtics for the whole season, playing in 17 games. He averaged 1.9 points per game during this time. The Celtics released Doug in July 1996, which marked the end of his NBA career.

Success in the CBA League

After his time in the NBA, Doug Smith played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He won two CBA championships. He won his first championship with the Oklahoma City Cavalry in 1997. The next year, in 1998, he won another championship with the Quad City Thunder.
