History of Dousman
Dousman got its first post office in 1856. The village was officially started in 1881. It was named after Talbot C. Dousman. He was a local farmer and businessman. He helped bring the Chicago and North Western railroad to the area. The village became officially recognized in 1917.
Did you know Dousman used to be called "Bullfrog Station"? This was because there were so many bullfrogs living nearby! Even today, the local baseball team is called the Dousman Frogs. There's even a fun frog jumping contest each year during Dousman's Derby Days celebration.
Geography and Nature
Dousman is located at about 43 degrees North and 88 degrees West. The village covers a total area of about 2.68 square miles (6.94 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
A cool trail called the Glacial Drumlin State Trail goes right through Dousman. This trail is 47 miles (76 kilometers) long. It's great for hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. The trail follows an old railroad path.
