Dowdell's Knob is a special mountain located in Harris County, Georgia. It's the tallest spot in Harris County, standing 1,395 feet (about 425 meters) high. It's also the highest point on the Pine Mountain Range nearby.
This mountain is famous because former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt used to visit and eat here. He even had a special brick oven and picnic area built just for him! He visited often when he was staying in nearby Warm Springs. You can find Dowdell's Knob about 66 miles (106 km) south of Atlanta and 30 miles (48 km) north of Columbus.

How Dowdell's Knob Got Its Name
The mountain is named after James and Lewis Dowdell. They were some of the first people to settle in this area a long time ago.
President Roosevelt's Special Spot
President Franklin D. Roosevelt often visited Warm Springs, Georgia, for his health. During his visits, he enjoyed spending time at Dowdell's Knob. It was a peaceful place where he could relax and have meals. The brick oven and picnic area he had built show how much he enjoyed this mountain.
