Dragon Creek is a small river, about 7.69 kilometers (or 4.78 miles) long. It flows into the mighty Delaware River in New Castle County, Delaware. It's like a smaller stream that feeds into a much bigger river.

Where Does Dragon Creek Start?

Dragon Creek begins its journey near Kirkwood, Delaware. It starts in an area called the Belltown Run divide. This starting point is about 0.25 miles west of Kirkwood. The water here is about 80 feet (24 meters) above sea level.

Dragon Creek's Journey

From its start, Dragon Creek flows generally east. It travels through New Castle County. Along its path, many bridges cross over it. These include Clifton Drive, Lovers Lane, and US 13. Finally, the creek reaches its end in Delaware City, Delaware. Here, it joins the Delaware River. At this point, the creek is at sea level.

What is a Watershed?

A watershed is all the land where water flows into a specific river or stream. Dragon Creek's watershed covers about 12.58 square miles (32.6 square kilometers). This area gets a good amount of rain each year, around 44.4 inches (113 cm). About 7.9% of the land in this watershed is covered by forests. This means trees and plants help to keep the water clean.
