The Drayton Drawbridge

In 1911, a special bridge called a drawbridge was built in Drayton. This bridge was meant to connect Drayton to Minnesota. People thought many riverboats would start using the upper Red River again.

However, the river levels stayed low, and the riverboats never came back. Because of this, the drawbridge was never needed to be raised. It became a bridge that never had to do its main job!
