Early Life and Family

Drew Scott was born on April 28, 1978, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the youngest of three brothers. His older brother, James Daniel, is two years older. His identical twin, Jonathan, was born four minutes before him. Their parents, Jim and Joanne Scott, were surprised to have twins!

Their father, Jim, came from Scotland. He worked in the film industry as an actor and stuntman. In the late 1970s, he decided to focus on his family. They moved to a horse farm in Maple Ridge.

Jim worked as a youth counselor. Joanne continued her job as a paralegal. When the twins turned seven, their father encouraged them to get jobs. They started a business called JAM. They made and sold nylon-covered hangers door-to-door.

Their family often renovated their homes. Drew and his brothers helped build and repair things from a young age. As teens, they went to Thomas Haney Secondary School. Drew was very good at sports, especially basketball and volleyball. After high school, the family moved to Alberta. The twins then went to the University of Calgary.

Drew's Career Journey

Starting Out in Entertainment and Real Estate

From a young age, Drew loved acting and comedy. As kids, he and Jonathan trained as clowns. They performed at parties and events. Drew later focused more on basketball. As a teen, he also acted in TV shows like Smallville and Breaker High.

Drew and Jonathan went to the University of Calgary. Drew studied kinesiology, which is the study of body movement. They wanted to be entertainers but also wanted to be financially stable. They learned about real estate investing.

During their first year of college, they rented a large house. They fixed it up and rented out extra rooms. This made them a good profit. They kept buying and fixing up homes for profit for 15 years. Jonathan studied construction and became a licensed contractor. Drew helped with tasks like installing siding and tile.

To support themselves, they also worked many different jobs. These included flight attendant, personal trainer, and website designer. In 2002, the brothers started Dividian Production Group. This company made films. Drew continued acting and directing on the side.

Drew had to stop playing professional basketball due to injuries. In 2004, he got his real estate license. He then focused on buying and selling properties. That same year, the twins started Scott Real Estate Inc. Their goal was to offer a "one stop shop" for real estate services. This included buying, selling, renovating, and design.

Even though he was successful in real estate, Drew missed acting. In 2006, he moved to Vancouver to pursue acting full-time. Jonathan stayed in Calgary to run the real estate business. Drew took acting classes and networked in the film industry.

He started pitching TV shows about real estate. Eventually, a company called Cineflix offered him a hosting job. They wanted him for a show called My Dream Home. In 2010, Drew moved to Las Vegas to join his brothers. In 2011, he and Jonathan bought a home together. Renovating this home became the subject of their fourth TV series, Property Brothers: At Home. This show was very popular.

They renovated a family friend's Rocky Mountain estate. For this show, Drew and Jonathan also wrote and recorded two country songs. These songs were "Hold On" and "Let the Night Shine In."
