Drumstick is a popular brand of ice cream cones. It's known for its tasty frozen treats. These cones are sold in many countries around the world. Froneri, a company co-owned by Nestlé and PAI Partners, makes them. The first Drumstick was created in 1928 in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

What is a Drumstick?

A classic Drumstick cone has a sweet sugar cone. It's filled with creamy vanilla ice cream. The top is covered with a hard chocolate shell and nuts. Later versions also added a chocolate lining inside the cone. There's even a chunk of chocolate at the very bottom!

How They Stay Crunchy

You might wonder how the cone stays crunchy. Usually, ice cream would make a cone soggy. But Drumstick cones have a special coating inside. This coating is made of oil, sugar, and chocolate. It keeps the ice cream from soaking into the cone. The hard chocolate shell on top also helps the cone keep its shape. This is useful if the ice cream starts to melt a little.

Where to Find Them

You can buy Drumstick cones in many places. Look for them in supermarkets, from ice cream trucks, and at convenience stores. If you buy a single Drumstick, it comes in a strong plastic wrapper. This wrapper protects the cone. Many people call any ice cream cone with a chocolate and nut topping a "drumstick." A popular saying for the brand is "Forever Summer."

History of Drumstick

In 1928, the Parker Brothers had a great idea. Bruce, I.C., and J.T. Parker were already making waffle cones. They decided to add a chocolate coating with nuts to the cone. One of their wives said this new treat looked like a chicken leg. In the US, chicken legs are often called "drumsticks." That's how the name came to be!

Ownership Changes

Nestlé bought the Drumstick Company in 1991. Then, in 2016, Nestlé teamed up with PAI Partners. They created a new company called Froneri. Froneri now handles all their ice cream products, including Drumstick.

Drumstick Cereal

In 2019, General Mills released a breakfast cereal. It was based on the popular Drumstick ice cream! The cereal came in two flavors: vanilla and mint chocolate.

Drumstick Flavors

Drumstick cones come in many exciting flavors. Besides the classic vanilla, you can find cones filled with caramel or fudge. There are also special "Crunch" flavors like Mint Chocolate Crunch and Cookies and Cream Crunch. Some cones are simply dipped in chocolate. In Canada, you can even find a chocolate-dipped Oreo Drumstick and a Strawberry Cheesecake Drumstick.

Official Flavors

According to the official Drumstick website, here are some of the flavors they make:

  • Classic
  • Simply Dipped
  • Pretzel Dipped
  • Crunch Dipped
  • Cookie Dipped
  • Mini Drums
  • Lil’ Drums
  • Sprinkled!
  • Super Nugget
  • King Size

Non-Dairy Options

In early 2020, Drumstick also started making non-dairy versions. These were for people who can't eat dairy products. The first non-dairy flavors released in Canada were:

  • Caramel
  • Vanilla Chocolate Swirl

However, in April 2021, these non-dairy products were recalled. This happened because there was a concern they might accidentally contain some dairy.
