He then studied drama at Dudley College. When he was 17, Henry moved to London. He wanted to start a career in acting there.
Acting Career
Henry began acting in 2004. His first role was with Samantha Janus in The Afternoon Play. This was a British TV series. From 2004 to 2011, Henry appeared in many popular British TV shows. These included Doctor Who, The Bill, and The Cut.
In 2010, he was nominated for an award. It was the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Screen National Award. This was for Best Emerging Talent.
Roles in British TV
From 2005 to 2013, Henry played five different characters in the British medical show Doctors. This show was set in Birmingham. In 2013, he played Gareth Broadhurst. This character was a former soldier with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). This role was part of a three-episode special called Doctors: War Zone.
Henry believes his Birmingham background helped him get roles on Doctors. In 2011, he also played a security guard. This was in Madonna's movie W.E.
Moving to Hollywood
In November 2013, Henry moved from London to Los Angeles. He spent a year working on his American accent. This helped him play more types of characters. He tried out for many roles. One was for Jennifer Lopez's show Shades of Blue. The famous director Barry Levinson was also there.
Starring in NCIS
Henry joined the NCIS cast in May 2016. He played MI6 agent Clayton Reeves. His first episodes were the last two of the show's 13th season. He was then asked to return for the next season.
In July 2016, it was confirmed he would be a regular on the show. This started in the 14th season, which aired on September 20, 2016. Henry added parts of his own upbringing to his character's story.
Henry left NCIS in the 15th season. His character, Clayton Reeves, was killed off in an episode called "Two Steps Back". Henry explained that after the show's creator, Gary Glasberg, passed away, they weren't sure how to continue Reeves's story. So, they decided to write him out of the show.
Personal Life and Inspiration
Duane Henry has shared that he faced challenges growing up. He believes these experiences helped him become a successful actor. He learned to work hard to reach his goals.
If he wasn't an actor, Henry says he would still be involved in the arts. He might teach drama to young people. Or he might work as a talent scout, finding new actors. When asked what inspires him, Henry looks at people around him. He sees how they overcome difficulties and keep going. This gives him strength to "keep on going" too.
