Dubois (pronounced doo-BOISS) is a small city in Clark County, Idaho, United States. It is the main town and the county seat of Clark County. This means it's where the county government offices are located. In 2020, about 511 people lived here.
The city got its name in 1892 from Fred Dubois. He was an important politician in Idaho's early days. Fred Dubois came to Idaho in 1880. Later, he became Idaho's first U.S. Senator. He served two terms, helping to shape the state's future.
Just a short drive north of Dubois, you'll find the U.S. Sheep Experiment Station. This place is a big employer in the county. Scientists there study different sheep breeds. Their goal is to help American farmers raise healthy and productive sheep. Dubois is also close to the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. This large forest has a special area called the Dubois ranger district.
