Duck for President is a popular children's book written by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin. It was released in 2004 by Simon & Schuster. This book continues the funny adventures of Farmer Brown's animals, who were first introduced in the book Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type.

The story became even more famous when Laura Bush, the former First Lady of the United States, read it aloud. She read it on April 9, 2007, as part of the yearly White House Easter egg roll event.

Duck's Big Idea: Running for President!

The story begins with Duck feeling very annoyed with Farmer Brown's way of running the farm. Duck thinks he could do a much better job. So, he decides to hold an election right there on the farm! He wants to take over Farmer Brown's role.

Duck's Campaign Trail

Duck's ambition grows beyond just the farm. He decides to try for bigger political jobs. First, he visits the office of the mayor of the town. A mayor is the elected leader of a city or town. Next, Duck goes to see the governor. A governor is the elected leader of a state.

Finally, Duck even travels to meet the president of the country. The president is the highest elected official in a country. Duck learns a lot about what these important jobs involve.

The Election Results

After his long journey and seeing how much work is involved, Duck returns to the farm. He realizes that being in charge of a whole country is a huge responsibility. He decides that "running a country is no fun at all." The book humorously shows the challenges of leadership.
