Dumgoyne is a well-known hill located at the edge of the Campsie Fells in Scotland. It's easy to spot from Glasgow because of its unique shape. Dumgoyne is actually a volcanic plug, which is what's left of an ancient volcano's core. It stands about 427 meters (1,401 feet) tall.

You can reach Dumgoyne easily from a path next to the Glengoyne Distillery. Another way is by following a track from the nearby villages of Strathblane and Blanefield, which are about 3 kilometers (2 miles) to the east. You can also start from Killearn to the west.

If you start from Strathblane or Blanefield, the path begins as Campsie Dene Road. This road soon becomes a private path. While you can't park on the private road, there's some space for cars near St. Kessog's Catholic Church. The walk continues along this private road for about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles). After passing a few gates, you'll turn right at another gate. This path leads you up and around the side of a smaller hill called Dumfoyn. From there, the path gets steeper as you climb Dumgoyne itself. At the very top, you'll find a small standing stone. This route also passes near the Spittal of Ballewan, which was once a hospital run by the medieval Knights Templar.

Nearby Hills

Close to Dumgoyne is another hill called Dumfoyn. It's similar to Dumgoyne but not as often climbed. Dumfoyn is about 421 meters (1,381 feet) high. From these hills, you can also see a much smaller, wooded hill named Dumgoyach. Dumgoyach is about 108 meters (354 feet) tall.

Dumgoyne Hamlet

Dumgoyne is also the name of a small village or "hamlet" nearby. This hamlet is a popular spot for people who are walking the West Highland Way, a famous long-distance walking route in Scotland. It's a great place for walkers to stop and rest.
