Dundee Lodge is a special farm with several old buildings near Gaston, in Oregon. These buildings were built in the 1920s. This rustic (meaning old-fashioned and simple) property is in the countryside of Washington County. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. This means it's an important historical place! It's also sometimes called Dee Brook Farm. Three of its buildings were designed by an architect named E. E. Green.
History of Dundee Lodge
The main house at Dundee Lodge is called the Fred and Esther Dundee House. It was built in 1921 by Albert McCloud. Fred A. Dundee owned a machine shop in Portland, Oregon. He had this log cabin built for himself. His business was known as the Fred Dundee Motor Car Repair and Machine Works.
Fred Dundee was also a race car driver! He raced cars from the White Motor Company around the early 1900s. The house was designed by E. E. Green. It was made to look rustic, like a cozy cabin. Around the same time, the Dundee Lodge building was also built. It was also designed by Green and used to be a hotel. On June 6, 1985, the farm was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places.
What Makes Dundee Lodge Special?
Dundee Lodge is located in the hills of the Northern Oregon Coast Range. You can find it on Dundee Road, northwest of Gaston. It's also near Henry Hagg Lake in the western part of Washington County.
All three main buildings on the farm were designed by E. E. Green. They all have a rustic style. These buildings were constructed around 1921. They mostly use round logs for their outside walls. The buildings also have brick on the outside. This gives them a classic log cabin look. The main building is shaped like a "U". Inside, you can still see the round logs. There is also some wood paneling and a brick fireplace.
