E. G. Marshall was an American actor. He was born Everett Eugene Grunz on June 18, 1914. He became famous for his roles on television and in movies.

Marshall was well-known for playing the lawyer Lawrence Preston on the TV show The Defenders in the 1960s. He also played neurosurgeon David Craig on The Bold Ones: The New Doctors in the 1970s. In movies, he is remembered as Juror 4 in the drama 12 Angry Men (1957). He even played the President of the United States in the movie Superman II (1980). Marshall was also the host of a popular radio show called CBS Radio Mystery Theater. He passed away on August 24, 1998.

E. G. Marshall's full birth name was Everett Eugene Grunz. He was born in Owatonna, Minnesota. His grandparents came from Germany.

During his life, Marshall never told anyone what "E. G." stood for. He would often joke that it meant "Everybody's Guess." He later chose the last name "Marshall" for his acting career.

E. G. Marshall had a very successful career as an actor. Even though many people know him from TV and movies, he also had a great career on Broadway, which is New York City's famous theater district.

In 1948, Marshall became one of the first actors chosen for the new Actors Studio. This was a special place where actors could train and improve their skills. He performed in many important plays, including The Skin of Our Teeth, The Iceman Cometh, The Crucible, and Waiting for Godot.

In 1973, he returned to the stage to play the main role in Macbeth. This play was very well-liked by critics. From 1974 to 1982, Marshall was the host of the popular radio show The CBS Radio Mystery Theater. On this show, he would introduce and sometimes act in different radio dramas.

E. G. Marshall was married two times. His first wife was Helen Wolf, and his second wife was Judith Coy. He had five children: Jed, Sarah, Jill, Degen, and Sam.

Marshall cared about people having good healthcare. He supported the idea of government-provided health care in the United States. He even made a political ad for presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey in 1968.

E. G. Marshall died from lung cancer on August 24, 1998. He was 84 years old. He passed away in Bedford, New York. He was buried in a cemetery in Banksville, New York.
