Eads is a small place in Shelby County, Tennessee, USA. It's not officially a city, but it's a community where people live. Eads got its name from James Buchanan Eads, an engineer from the American Civil War.
Some parts of Eads have become part of the nearby city of Memphis. Other areas are still independent. Eads is located near several other towns. It is north of Collierville and west of Somerville. It's also east of Memphis and Bartlett.

History of Eads
The community of Eads started in 1888. This was when the Tennessee Midland Railroad tracks were built. These tracks went through a small village. That village was known as Sewardville at the time.
Annexation and Deannexation
Sometimes, a larger city can take over smaller areas nearby. This is called annexation. After a long legal challenge, small parts of Eads became part of Memphis in the 1990s. This meant they were then under the control of the Memphis City Council.
Most of Eads is now in what is called the "Memphis reserve." This means that Memphis has the right to annex these areas in the future.
Returning to County Control
On January 1, 2020, a part of Eads changed back. This area was on the south side of US 64. It was also just north of the Grays Creek community. This section was between Cobb Road and the Shelby County border. It was "deannexed" from Memphis. This means it went back to being under county control.
