Earl Williams played high school basketball in Levittown, Pennsylvania. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School. In 2023, he was honored for his sports achievements. He was added to the Bristol Township School District Athletic Hall Of Fame. After high school, he played college basketball at Winston-Salem State University. He played for the Winston-Salem State Rams team.

Playing in the United States
In 1974, Earl Williams was chosen in the NBA draft. The Phoenix Suns picked him in the 3rd round. He made his first NBA appearance on October 17, 1974, with the Suns. Over the next four years, he also played for other NBA teams. These included the Detroit Pistons, the New York Nets, and the Boston Celtics.
Playing Basketball in Sweden
For the 1977–78 season, Earl Williams moved to Sweden. He played for a team called Alvik in the Swedish Basketball League. His team finished in second place that year.
Playing Basketball in Israel
Earl Williams later became a big star in the Israeli Basketball Super League. He played for famous teams like Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Holon. He also played for Maccabi Ramat Gan.
