The Duke of Rutland is a very old and important title in England. It is named after Rutland, a small county in the middle of England. The family who holds this title today has the last name "Manners."
The title of "Earl of Rutland" was first created a long time ago. Later, in 1703, the ninth Earl was given the even higher title of "Duke." The person who will inherit the Duke of Rutland title is called the Marquess of Granby. - John James Robert Manners, 7th Duke of Rutland (1818–1906): He was the fourth son of the 5th Duke.
- Henry John Brinsley Manners, 8th Duke of Rutland (1852–1925): He was the oldest son of the 7th Duke. His older son, Robert Charles John, passed away when he was young.
- John Henry Montagu Manners, 9th Duke of Rutland (1886–1940): He was the younger son of the 8th Duke.
- Charles John Robert Manners, 10th Duke of Rutland (1919–1999): He was the oldest son of the 9th Duke.
- David Charles Robert Manners, 11th Duke of Rutland (born 1959): He is the current Duke and the oldest son of the 10th Duke.
The person who is expected to become the next Duke is Charles John Montague Manners, Marquess of Granby. He was born in 1999 and is the oldest son of the 11th Duke.
