The Duke of Rutland is a very old and important title in England. It is named after Rutland, a small county in the middle of England. The family who holds this title today has the last name "Manners."

The title of "Earl of Rutland" was first created a long time ago. Later, in 1703, the ninth Earl was given the even higher title of "Duke." The person who will inherit the Duke of Rutland title is called the Marquess of Granby. Other important titles held by this family include Earl of Rutland (since 1525) and Baron Manners of Haddon (since 1679).

People often address the Duke of Rutland as His Grace. The family has two main homes: Haddon Hall in Derbyshire and Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire.
