East Cape Girardeau got its start a long time ago. A post office opened in the village in 1874. It stayed open for many years, until 1913. The village is named "East Cape Girardeau" because it is located just east of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Connecting Across the Mississippi
East Cape Girardeau sits right across the mighty Mississippi River from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. These two places are connected by a cool bridge. It's called the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge. This bridge opened in December 2003. Before that, an older bridge from 1928 connected the two towns.
