East Sparta is a small village located in southern Stark County, Ohio, United States. In 2020, about 749 people lived there. It is part of the bigger Canton–Massillon metropolitan area.

History of East Sparta
East Sparta was first known as Sparta. It was founded in 1815. The village was named after the famous ancient city of Sparta in Greece.
In 2015, East Sparta's old water tower was taken down. It had been standing for 70 years. A historic building, the Towne Pump Tavern, built in 1909, sadly burned down in 2017.
Geography and Location
East Sparta is found next to a stream called Nimishillen Creek. It is also close to the border of Tuscarawas County in Ohio.
The village covers an area of about 1.82 square miles (4.71 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.

East Sparta Population in 2010
In 2010, the village of East Sparta had 819 people living there. There were 328 households, and 229 of these were families. The population density was about 487.5 people per square mile (188.2 people per square kilometer).
Most of the people living in the village were White (99.3%). A small number were African American (0.2%) or from two or more races (0.5%). About 0.9% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
About 29.6% of the households had children under 18 years old. More than half (55.5%) were married couples living together. About 30.2% of households were not families. Also, 24.7% of all households had only one person living there. About 12.1% of households had someone aged 65 or older living alone.
The average household had 2.50 people, and the average family had 2.95 people. The median age in the village was 42.3 years. About 24.3% of residents were under 18. About 17.6% were 65 years old or older. The village had a nearly even split of genders, with 49.7% male and 50.3% female residents.
