Eastern Shore Centre is a large shopping area in Spanish Fort, Alabama. It's known as a "lifestyle center," which means it has a mix of outdoor shops, restaurants, and entertainment. You can find it where Malbis Parkway and Interstate 10 meet.

This center was the first of its kind in Baldwin County, Alabama. It was also the first lifestyle center to open in South Alabama. It even has an apartment community nearby called The Arlington at Eastern Shore Centre.

History and Opening

Eastern Shore Centre officially opened on November 17, 2004. Its opening was a little bit delayed because of Hurricane Ivan. However, one of its main stores, Dillard's, opened a few weeks earlier.

The shopping center was designed by CMH Architects. It was developed by The MGHerring Group.

Stores and Shops

Eastern Shore Centre has many different kinds of stores. The two biggest stores are Dillard's and Belk. These are called "anchor" stores.

Other popular stores include the bookstore Barnes & Noble and the shoe store Shoe Station. You can also find shops like Build-A-Bear Workshop, Ann Taylor LOFT, and Kirkland's Home. There are many places to eat and other businesses located around the parking lots.

Entertainment

In 2008, Eastern Shore Centre added a big movie theater called Premiere Cinemas. This movie theater has fourteen screens and over 2,500 seats. It was the first movie theater in Alabama to use all-digital projectors. This means the movies look extra clear!

Changes Over Time

Over the years, some stores have moved or closed.

  • In 2015, Bed Bath and Beyond closed its store here. The Shoe Station store then moved into that space.
  • In 2017, home furnishing stores like Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn moved to a different shopping center.
  • Later, a fast-fashion store called Forever 21 opened in those empty spaces in 2018. However, this store closed in 2020 as part of many closures across the country.

Eastern Shore Plaza

Right next to the lifestyle center is another shopping area called Eastern Shore Plaza. This is a "power center," which means it has many big stores. Some of the stores you can find here include:

  • Best Buy (for electronics)
  • PetSmart (for pet supplies)
  • Old Navy (for clothes)
  • Ross Dress For Less (for discounted clothes and home goods)
  • Michaels (for crafts)
  • Cost Plus World Market (for unique gifts and home items)

Future Plans

There are plans for more development at Eastern Shore Centre.

  • A Publix supermarket opened in 2011. It is the main store in a smaller shopping area called Eastern Shore Commons.
  • There are also plans for another very large store to be built near Publix.
  • More shops and businesses might also be added near the movie theater.
