Ebenezer Maitland was the only son of Ebenezer Maitland Sr. His father was a successful businessman in London. He also worked as a director for the Bank of England. Early Military Role

In 1804, Ebenezer Fuller Maitland was a lieutenant-colonel. This was a high rank in the Reading Volunteers. They were a local military group.

Becoming a Politician

Maitland became a Member of Parliament. This means he was elected to represent people in the government. He represented different areas:

  • Wallingford starting in 1812.
  • Chippenham starting in 1826.

He stayed as the MP for Chippenham until 1830. After that, he tried to become the MP for Abingdon but was not successful.
