The Ecnomiohyla salvaje is a special kind of frog that lives in the forests of Guatemala and Honduras. It belongs to the Hylidae family, which is a group of tree frogs. This amazing frog is known for living in specific types of forests, but sadly, its home is shrinking.

About the Savage Tree Frog

The Ecnomiohyla salvaje is often called the Savage Tree Frog. It's a type of frog that spends most of its life in trees. These frogs are an important part of the forest ecosystem. They help control insect populations and are a food source for other animals.

Where It Lives

This unique frog can only be found in two countries: Guatemala and Honduras. It prefers to live in certain kinds of forests. These are usually subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Imagine forests high up in the mountains where it's warm and wet all year round. These forests are full of tall trees, lots of plants, and plenty of moisture, which frogs love.

Why It's in Danger

Sadly, the Ecnomiohyla salvaje is facing a big problem: habitat loss. This means the places where it lives are disappearing. People are cutting down trees for farming, building, or other reasons. Even forests that are "heavily degraded" (meaning they've been badly damaged) are sometimes all that's left for these frogs. When their homes are destroyed, these frogs have nowhere to go, making it very hard for them to survive and have babies. Because of this, the Ecnomiohyla salvaje is considered an endangered species, meaning it's at high risk of disappearing forever.
