Ed McGaa (born April 16, 1936 – died August 25, 2017) was an American author and teacher. He led workshops about spirituality and was also a military veteran. He was a member of the Oglala Lakota people.

Early Life and Military Service

Ed McGaa was born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He was a member of the Oglala Lakota tribe.

He served in the Marines during the Korean War. Later, he became a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War. He flew 110 combat missions, which means he completed many flights in dangerous areas. For his bravery, he received 8 Air Medals and 2 Crosses of Gallantry. He was also considered for a Distinguished Flying Cross, another high honor.

Education and Spirituality

After his military service, Ed McGaa continued his education. He earned his first degree from Saint John's University. Then, he went on to get a law degree from the University of South Dakota.

Later in his life, Ed McGaa became very involved in Native American spirituality. He took part in the Sun Dance ceremony with a respected elder named Frank Fools Crow. McGaa then began writing books and leading workshops. These workshops taught people about Native American spiritual paths and ways of healing.

Ed McGaa wrote several books that shared his knowledge and experiences. His books often focused on Native American spirituality, history, and healing. Here are some of his works:
