Eddie Jiles Elder (born February 14, 1989) is an American former professional football player. He played as a defensive back. Eddie Elder played for the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He also played college football at the College of San Mateo and Arizona State University. He was briefly with the Arizona Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL).

Early Life and High School Football
Eddie Jiles Elder was born on February 14, 1989. His hometown is Oakland, California. He grew up in Sacramento, California. Eddie played football for three years in high school. He was a starter on the varsity team at Luther Burbank High School.
College Football Journey
Eddie Elder played college football for two different schools. He started his college career at the College of San Mateo.
Playing for San Mateo Bulldogs
From 2008 to 2009, Eddie played for the San Mateo Bulldogs. In 2008, his first year, he made 49 tackles. He also had two sacks and caught six interceptions. In 2009, he had an even better year. He made 70 tackles and forced four fumbles. He also caught seven interceptions. Because of his great play, he was named a first-team junior college All-American. He was also chosen as California's junior college defensive player of the year in 2009. Eddie earned an Associate in Arts degree from San Mateo.
Playing for Arizona State Sun Devils
After San Mateo, Eddie moved to Arizona State University. He played for the Arizona State Sun Devils in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, he played in all 12 games. He started nine of those games. He had 47 solo tackles and 17 assisted tackles. He also had one sack and two interceptions. In 2011, he played in all 13 games. He started 11 games as a free safety. He made 45 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles. He also forced one fumble and caught one interception. After his senior year, Eddie played in the Casino del Sol College All-Star Game. He studied Business Information Systems at Arizona State.
Professional Football Career
Eddie Elder played for two professional football teams.
Arizona Cardinals (NFL)
The Arizona Cardinals signed Eddie Elder on May 14, 2012. This was his chance to play in the National Football League (NFL). However, he was released by the Cardinals on August 24, 2012. He was part of their team during the offseason and practice squad.
Ottawa Redblacks (CFL)
Eddie then signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on December 31, 2013. This team plays in the Canadian Football League (CFL). In the 2014 season, he played in 14 games. He started eight of those games. He made 18 tackles on defense. He also made three tackles on special teams. He even had one punt return for six yards. The Redblacks released him on February 23, 2015.
Coaching Football
After his playing career, Eddie Elder became a football coach. He coached at high schools and a college.
High School Coaching
From 2015 to 2016, Eddie was the head football coach at West Campus High School. This school is in Sacramento. He then became the head coach at his old high school, Luther Burbank High School. He coached there from 2017 to 2021.
College Coaching
In 2022, Eddie Elder joined American River College. He became the safeties coach for their football team.
