Eddie Milner's Baseball Journey
Starting His Career
Milner was chosen by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1976 baseball draft. This happened after he played college baseball at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. He joined the Reds during a time when the team was changing. The Reds were known as the "Big Red Machine" in the 1970s for winning championships.
Playing for the Reds
Milner became part of the team as older stars like Ken Griffey Sr. moved on. He played alongside new players like Gary Redus. One exciting moment in Milner's career was in 1986. He had a 20-game hitting streak, which means he got a hit in 20 games in a row. During this streak, he hit 15 home runs! His time with the Reds ended in 1988.
His Stats and Records
Looking at the Numbers
Over his nine years in Major League Baseball, Milner played in 804 games. He got 607 hits out of 2,395 at bats. This gave him a career batting average of .253. He also hit 42 home runs and had 195 runs batted in (RBIs). His on-base percentage was .333.
Playing in the Outfield
Milner was a great fielder. He played all three outfield positions (left, center, and right field). His fielding percentage was .987, which means he made very few errors.
Breaking Up No-Hitters
Eddie Milner holds a special record with another player named César Tovar. They are known for breaking up the most no-hit attempts. A no-hitter is when a pitcher doesn't let the other team get any hits in a whole game. Milner broke up five no-hit attempts by getting his team's only hit in those games. He tied Tovar's record on August 2, 1986.
About His Life
Eddie Milner's cousin, John Milner, was also a player in Major League Baseball. Eddie Milner passed away on November 2, 2015, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
