Eddie Robinson's College Journey
Eddie Robinson Jr. grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He went to Brother Martin High School and finished in 1988. After high school, Eddie went to Alabama State University. He earned an academic scholarship, which helped him pay for college.
He joined the football team as a "walk-on." This means he wasn't offered a scholarship to play football at first. He started playing as an offensive guard. Later, he changed his position to linebacker, which is a defensive player. In 1994, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.
College Football Achievements
Eddie was a star player for all four years he played college football. He received "All-SWAC" honors in 1990 and 1991. He was also named the "SWAC Defensive Player of the Year" in both those years. The SWAC is the Southwestern Athletic Conference, a group of colleges that play sports together.
He also earned "All-America" honors from the Sheridan Broadcasting Network. This means he was recognized as one of the best college players in the country. Eddie was also good at his studies, earning academic "All Conference" honors. In 1998, at just 28 years old, he became the youngest person ever to join the SWAC Hall of Fame.
Playing in the NFL
Eddie Robinson Jr. was chosen by the Houston Oilers in the 1992 NFL Draft. He was the 50th player picked overall. This was a big step for him into professional football.
