Edgell Island is a small island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. It is located in Nunavut, a territory in northern Canada. This island is found in Davis Strait, which is a body of water near the entrance to Frobisher Bay.
About Edgell Island
Edgell Island is one of the smaller islands that are close to Baffin Island. A stretch of water called Graves Strait separates Edgell Island from Resolution Island. Graves Strait is about 16 miles (26 km) long and 7 miles (11 km) wide.
Size and Features
Edgell Island covers an area of 287 square kilometers (111 square miles). Its coastline, or perimeter, is about 148 kilometers (92 miles) long. The highest point on the island is 254 meters (833 feet) above sea level.
The only named place on Edgell Island is a headland called Black Bluff. A headland is a piece of land that sticks out into the sea. Black Bluff is located at the northern end of the island.
How Edgell Island Got Its Name
The island is named after Captain Edgell. He was a notable person who surveyed, or carefully mapped, an area called Pacquet in Newfoundland and Labrador in 1801.
