History of Edmonton
The land where Edmonton now stands was first mapped in 1800. The city itself was started in 1818 by the Kentucky government. It was set up as a place for people to trade goods.
In 1860, Edmonton became the county seat for Metcalfe County. This means it became the main town where the county government is located. The city's post office opened on February 18, 1830. It was named after Edmund Rogers, though his name was spelled a bit differently.
Where is Edmonton Located?
Edmonton is in the middle of Metcalfe County. It is about 18 miles east of Glasgow. Other nearby towns include Tompkinsville to the south and Columbia to the northeast.
Roads and Rivers
Major roads like U.S. Route 68 and Kentucky Route 80 go right through the center of Edmonton. The Cumberland Parkway highway also runs along the northern edge of the city. You can get to Edmonton from exits 27 and 29 on the parkway.
The South Fork of the Little Barren River flows through Edmonton. This river is a branch of the Little Barren River. It eventually flows into the Green River.
