Edmund Brydges, 2nd Baron Chandos was an important English nobleman and politician. He was born before 1522 and died on March 11, 1573. He held several important positions. These included being the 2nd Baron Chandos and a Knight of the Garter. He also served as the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire and Vice-Admiral of Gloucestershire.
Life of Edmund Brydges
Edmund Brydges was the oldest son of John Brydges, 1st Baron Chandos. His mother was Elizabeth Grey. His family lived at Sudeley Manor in Gloucestershire. When his father passed away on April 12, 1557, Edmund became the 2nd Baron Chandos.
Military Service and Honors
Edmund Brydges served in the army during wars in France in 1544. He then fought in Scotland. He was made a knight in 1547. This honor happened after the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh.
He also had a career in politics. In 1545, he was chosen as a Member of Parliament for Wootton Bassett. Later, in 1553, he became a "knight of the shire" for Gloucestershire. A knight of the shire was a representative for a county in Parliament. In 1572, he received a very special honor. He was made a Knight of the Garter. This is one of the highest honors in England.
Family Life
Edmund Brydges married Dorothy Bray in 1546. Together, they had five sons and one daughter.
Edmund Brydges died in 1573. His oldest son, Giles Brydges, 3rd Baron Chandos, took over his title. After Giles died in 1594, his younger son, William Brydges, 4th Baron Chandos, became the next Baron.
