Giles Brydges, 3rd Baron Chandos of Sudeley (born around 1548, died February 21, 1594), was an important English nobleman. He served at the royal court during the time of Queen Elizabeth I.

Life of Giles Brydges
Giles Brydges was born at Sudeley Manor in Gloucestershire, England. His parents were Edmund Brydges, 2nd Baron Chandos and Dorothy Bray.
Early Political Career
Giles Brydges became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1571. He represented the area of Cricklade. From 1572 to 1573, he served as an MP for Gloucestershire.
Becoming Baron Chandos
On March 11, 1573, Giles Brydges became the 3rd Baron Chandos of Sudeley. This happened after his father passed away. Later, in 1586, he also became the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire. This was an important role, representing the monarch in the county.
Royal Visits and Legacy
Giles Brydges had the honor of hosting Queen Elizabeth I at his home, Sudeley Castle, in 1592. He died on February 21, 1594. Since he did not have any sons who survived him, his brother, William, became the 4th Baron Chandos of Sudeley. Giles Brydges is buried in the Chapel of St. Mary at Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, England.
Family Life
Giles Brydges married Lady Frances Clinton before 1573. She was born in 1553 in Scrivelsby, Lincolnshire. Frances passed away on September 12, 1623, at Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire.
Children of Giles and Frances
Giles and Frances had four children together. However, only their two daughters lived to adulthood:
- Elizabeth Brydges (born around 1578, died 1617) was a Maid of Honour to Queen Elizabeth I. She married Sir John Kennedy but did not have any children.
- Catherine Brydges (born around 1580, died 1656 or 1657) married Francis Russell, 4th Earl of Bedford. They had children.
- John Brydges died when he was young.
- Charles Brydges also died when he was young.
Family Portraits
Paintings of Giles Brydges, his wife Frances, and their daughter Elizabeth were created by the artist Hieronimo Custodis. These portraits are now part of the collection belonging to the Duke of Bedford at Woburn Abbey.
