Edna Davis Jackson was born in 1950 in Petersburg, Alaska. She still lives in Kake, a community nearby. Her father was Tlingit, working as a fisherman and carpenter. Her mother was from Michigan. Growing up, her family often traveled between Alaska and Michigan. This meant she had to get used to new places many times.

Her Artistic Journey

Edna started making crafts with her mother when she was a child. This early experience helped her discover her love for art. Her art is deeply connected to her Tlingit background. She uses her heritage to inspire many of her creations.

Education and Teaching

Edna studied art at college. She earned her first art degree from Oregon State University in 1980. Then, in 1983, she received a master's degree from the University of Washington. Papermaking has always been a very important part of her art. She has taught papermaking to students of all ages. This includes high school students and college students at the University of Alaska at Juneau. She also taught weaving there.
