Eduardo Nantes Bolsonaro was born on July 10, 1984. He is a Brazilian politician, a lawyer, and a federal police officer. He is the third son of Jair Bolsonaro, who was the 38th president of Brazil. Since March 2022, he has been part of the Liberal Party.

A Career in Politics

Eduardo Bolsonaro has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2015. The Chamber of Deputies is like one of the two main groups of lawmakers in Brazil. In 2018, he was re-elected for a second time. He received 1.8 million votes, which made him the lawmaker with the most votes in Brazil's history at that time.

In 2019, it was reported that Bolsonaro joined "The Movement." This group is based in Europe and supports a type of politics called right-wing populism. It was started by Steve Bannon. Eduardo Bolsonaro is the representative for this group in South America.

In the Chamber of Deputies, he leads the International Affairs and National Defense Committee. This committee deals with how Brazil works with other countries and how it protects itself.

Learning English and Ambassador Role

Eduardo Bolsonaro has lived in places like Maine and Colorado in the United States. He says he learned English by "flipping burgers." Because of his English skills, his father, President Jair Bolsonaro, suggested he become the ambassador to the United States.

However, in October 2019, Eduardo Bolsonaro decided not to become ambassador. Instead, he chose to become the leader of his political party, the PSL, in the Chamber of Deputies. After this, President Bolsonaro nominated someone else for the ambassador job.

The Madrid Charter

Bolsonaro signed the Madrid Charter. This is a document created by a Spanish political party called Vox. The document describes certain left-wing groups as enemies of Ibero-America. It says these groups are involved in a "criminal project" linked to the Cuban government.

He signed this document with other politicians from different countries. These included Rafael López Aliaga from Peru, Javier Milei from Argentina, José Antonio Kast from Chile, and Giorgia Meloni from Italy. After Meloni won an election in Italy in 2022, Bolsonaro celebrated her victory. He said she stood for "God, fatherland and family."

Family Life

Eduardo Bolsonaro has two brothers who are also involved in politics. His brother Flávio Bolsonaro is a member of the Federal Senate. His other brother, Carlos Bolsonaro, is a member of the Rio de Janeiro City Council.

Eduardo married Heloísa Wolf, a psychologist, on May 25, 2019. Their wedding was a small event with 150 guests in Rio de Janeiro. His father, President Jair Bolsonaro, and his stepmother, Michelle Bolsonaro, were among the guests. Michelle Bolsonaro was also one of the bridesmaids.

On October 10, 2020, Eduardo and Heloísa had their first child, a girl named Geórgia Wolf Bolsonaro.

Eduardo is also a big fan of the band Forfun.

Controversies

Comments on "New AI-5"

In late October 2019, Eduardo Bolsonaro made a comment about a "new AI-5." He said this could happen if there was "left-wing radicalization" in Brazil. He said this during an interview when asked about protests in Chile.

Institutional Act No. 5, or AI-5, was a very strict rule put in place in 1968 during a time when Brazil was under military rule. This rule gave the government a lot of power. It allowed them to close down the National Congress and other government groups. It also removed some basic rights for citizens. The time after AI-5 was known for more censorship and control over people.

Eduardo's comment caused a lot of negative reactions from many different political groups. People from the left, center, and right, as well as judges, spoke out against it. The opposition parties said they would report him to the Parliamentary Ethics and Decoration Council. The mayor of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, called the statement "repugnant." He said that promoting ideas from the dictatorship could lead to punishment.

Lawmakers in Brazil have "parliamentary immunity." This means they usually cannot be punished for their opinions or words while doing their job. However, the Constitution also says that a lawmaker can lose their position if they "abuse their rights." Based on this, the opposition wanted to ask for Eduardo's removal from office.

After many negative reactions and being told off by his father, President Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo said he had been misunderstood. He apologized for his statement on a TV program.
