Political Career
Eduardo Bolsonaro has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2015. This is like being a representative in the Brazilian parliament. In 2018, he was re-elected for a second time. He received 1.8 million votes, which made him the lawmaker with the most votes in Brazil's history at that time.
In February 2019, it was reported that Bolsonaro joined an organization called "The Movement." This group, based in Europe, supports a type of politics called right-wing populism. It was started by Steve Bannon, who used to work for the White House. Eduardo Bolsonaro is the representative for this group in South America.
In the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Bolsonaro leads the International Affairs and National Defense Committee. This committee deals with how Brazil works with other countries and how it protects itself.
Ambassador Nomination
Eduardo Bolsonaro lived in Maine and Colorado in the United States before becoming a politician. He said he learned English by working jobs like "flipping burgers." Because he spoke English well, his father suggested he become the ambassador to the United States. An ambassador is a country's main representative in another country.
However, in October 2019, Eduardo Bolsonaro decided not to take the ambassador job. This happened after he was chosen to lead the PSL in the Chamber of Deputies. After he withdrew, President Bolsonaro nominated Nesttor Forster for the role.
The Madrid Charter
Eduardo Bolsonaro signed a document called the Madrid Charter. This document was created by a conservative political party from Spain called Vox. The charter describes some left-wing groups as enemies of Ibero-America, which is a region that includes countries in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal).
He signed this document along with other politicians from different countries. These included Rafael López Aliaga from Peru, Javier Milei from Argentina, José Antonio Kast from Chile, and Giorgia Meloni from Italy. After Giorgia Meloni won an election in Italy in 2022, Bolsonaro celebrated her victory. He said that Italy's new prime minister supported "God, fatherland and family."
Recent Political News
In March 2025, Eduardo Bolsonaro shared on social media that he planned to leave his role as a Deputy. He also said he wanted to seek asylum in the United States. Asylum is protection given by a country to someone who has left their home country because they fear for their safety. Bolsonaro claimed that the Brazilian Supreme Court was considering taking away his passport. However, top prosecutors in Brazil said that Bolsonaro's claims were not true.
Family Life
Eduardo Bolsonaro has two brothers. His brother Flávio Bolsonaro was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro and is now a member of the Federal Senate. His other brother, Carlos Bolsonaro, has been a member of the Rio de Janeiro City Council since 2001.
Eduardo Bolsonaro married Heloísa Wolf, a psychologist, on 25 May 2019. Their wedding was a small event held in Santa Tereza, Rio de Janeiro. His father, Jair Bolsonaro, who was president at the time, and his stepmother Michelle, attended the ceremony. Unlike his father, Eduardo speaks English very well.
Eduardo and Heloísa had a daughter named Geórgia Wolf Bolsonaro in October 2020.
Eduardo is also a big fan of the band Forfun.

Public Statements and Reactions
Comments on AI-5
In late October 2019, Eduardo Bolsonaro spoke about the possibility of a "new AI-5." He made this comment during an interview when asked about protests happening in Chile.
Institutional Act No. 5, or AI-5, was a very strict decree issued in 1968 during a time when Brazil was under a military dictatorship. This act gave the military government a lot of power. It allowed them to close the National Congress and state assemblies. It also suspended some basic rights and allowed political rights to be taken away quickly. The time after AI-5 was known for increased control over information and strong actions against people who disagreed with the government.
Eduardo Bolsonaro's statement caused a lot of negative reactions from different political groups. Many people, including other politicians, said his comment was wrong. The opposition parties said they would report Eduardo to the Parliamentary Ethics and Decoration Council. This council deals with the behavior of lawmakers.
The Constitution of Brazil protects lawmakers from being punished for their opinions or votes. This is called "parliamentary immunity." However, the Constitution also says that a lawmaker can lose their position if they misuse their rights. Because of this, the opposition asked for Eduardo's removal from office.
After the strong negative reactions and after being told off by his father, President Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo said he had been misunderstood. He apologized for his statement on a TV program.
