Eduardo Luiz Saverin, born on March 19, 1982, is a successful Brazilian businessman and investor. He is best known for being one of the people who helped start Facebook. Today, he lives in Singapore and is a co-founder of a company called B Capital, which invests in new businesses. As of June 2025, Forbes magazine estimates he is the wealthiest person from Brazil and one of the richest people in the world.

Early Life and School

Eduardo Saverin was born in São Paulo, Brazil, into a wealthy family. His family later moved to Rio de Janeiro. His father, Roberto Saverin, was a businessman, and his mother, Sandra, was a psychologist. In 1993, when Eduardo was about 11 years old, his family moved to the United States and settled in Miami, Florida. He became a US citizen in 1998.

Eduardo went to Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami. After that, he attended Harvard University, a famous college. While at Harvard, he was very interested in weather patterns. He used this interest to predict hurricanes and made a lot of money by investing in oil. In 2006, he graduated from Harvard with a degree in economics.

Starting Facebook and Other Ventures

During his time at Harvard, Eduardo Saverin met Mark Zuckerberg. They noticed that Harvard students needed a special website to connect with each other online. So, in 2004, they worked together to launch Facebook. They both invested money to get the website started.

As a co-founder, Eduardo helped manage the business side of Facebook. Over time, there were some disagreements between the co-founders. These issues were later settled, and Eduardo's role as a co-founder of Facebook was confirmed.

After Facebook, Eduardo continued to be an entrepreneur. In 2010, he helped start Aporta, a website for charity. In 2015, he created his own investment company called B Capital. This company invests in new and growing businesses, especially in places like Southeast Asia and India. For example, in 2016, B Capital invested in Ninja Van, a company that delivers packages in Southeast Asia.

In early 2020, Eduardo also invested in Antler, another company that helps new businesses get started.

In Movies

Eduardo Saverin's story is part of the movie The Social Network. In the film, he is played by actor Andrew Garfield. The movie is based on a book called The Accidental Billionaires.

Personal Life

Eduardo Saverin moved to Singapore in 2009. On June 25, 2015, he married Elaine Andriejanssen. They have one child. Elaine works in finance and comes from a wealthy family in Indonesia. They met while studying at universities in Massachusetts, USA.

In 2011, Eduardo gave up his US citizenship. He stated that he did this because he wanted to live and work in Singapore. In 2024, he donated US$15 million to the Singapore American School.

In 2023, he bought two large chalets in Courchevel, a ski resort in France. These chalets are very big, totaling over 3,000 square meters, and are connected underground.
