Edward Maurice Bronfman (November 1, 1927 – April 4, 2005) was a very important Canadian businessman. He was also a philanthropist, which means he gave a lot of money and time to help others. Edward was a member of the well-known Bronfman family.

Early Life and Education
Edward Bronfman was born in Montreal, Quebec. His father was Allan Bronfman. His uncle, Samuel Bronfman, was famous for starting a big company called Seagram. Edward went to different schools, including Selwyn House School and Bishop's College School. He later studied business at Babson College and finished his degree in 1950.
Building a Business Empire
Edward Bronfman, along with his brother Peter Bronfman, started a company called Edper Investments. This company is now known as Brookfield Asset Management. It grew into a huge group of companies, sometimes called a conglomerate. At one point, it managed about CAD $100 billion worth of assets. This meant they owned parts of many large companies across Canada.
Owning the Montreal Canadiens
From 1971 to 1978, Edward and his brother Peter owned the famous hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens. During their time as owners, the team was very successful. The Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup four times: in 1973, 1976, 1977, and 1978. This was a proud time for the team and its fans.
Giving Back to the Community
Edward Bronfman was also known for his kindness and generosity. He believed in helping others and often gave money to different causes. In 2000, he received a special award called the Order of Canada. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada because of his strong dedication to philanthropy. This award recognizes Canadians who have made a big difference in their country.
Personal Life
Edward Bronfman was married two times. He had three sons named Paul, David, and Brian. He passed away on April 4, 2005, from colon cancer.
