In the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, the character of Jarvis is different. He is not a human butler. Instead, he is an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) named J.A.R.V.I.S.. This stands for Just A Rather Very Intelligent System.

The movie creators, like director Jon Favreau, decided to make Jarvis an AI. They wanted to avoid confusion with Alfred Pennyworth from DC Comics. J.A.R.V.I.S. helps Tony Stark with his Iron Man suits and manages his home. The voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in the movies is provided by actor Paul Bettany.

J.A.R.V.I.S. appeared in several movies, including Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, J.A.R.V.I.S. later becomes the superhero known as Vision.
